Commuter Assistant

Job Description

Working with the Director of Student and Family Assistance and any other FIT Interns/Work Study Commuter Assistants:

  • Develop positive relationships with commuter students; may meet with first-year and transfer commuter students throughout the semester through "Intentional Conversations"
  • Disseminate routine information to commuters on campus resources (Counseling Center, Health Services, Career Center, Public Safety, Financial Aid, the lntercultural Center, Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution, and the Center for Student Academic Success, etc.), processes, and deadlines
  • Work with Commuter Connections program for first year commuters
  • Work with Student Life staff with creating community building programs for commuter students
  • Help to engage commuters using social media outlets; help to maintain commuter Hawk Link page and send out a regular commuter newsletter via email in collaboration with your co-Commuter Assistant (s)
  • Promote commuter engagement in campus clubs, organizations and campus events.
  • Initiate, plan and organize educational and/or social programs that respond to the needs and interests of commuters as needed, especially through collaboration with the Commuters in Action (CIA) club
  • Communicate with supervisor regularly about intentional conversations, programs and events, and the commuter community through meetings as needed
  • Attend Commuter in Action Club Meetings

*Students are prohibited from driving during work-study employment with the limited exception of authorized work-study driver positions.
